Reader, I married him (and the impact this has on my writing)

To quote Charlotte Brontë’s Jane Eyre, Reader, I married him. I’ve been absent in the online writing community for a few weeks while I focused on my wedding and my honeymoon. Thank you all for still being here now I’m back, I can’t wait to catch up with you and hear how your writing journeys are progressing.

Usually, I try to post advice and info, things I’ve learned or am learning in the world of writing. But I’ve always said this blog is also here to document my journey, in the hopes I will one day look back over it all and recognise these important moments in my life. And getting married is of course one of them.

But I still want the post to relate to writing in some way, which is why I’m going to share the impact my marriage, and my honeymoon, has had on me as a writer.

I married a man who fully supports my writing
Whether you marry, or simply fall in love, let it be with somebody who supports what you do and encourages what you love. My wonderful husband, Toby, has been my biggest cheerleader in my writing world. He’s the person who made me sit down and take it seriously when I was consumed by doubt, he has sent me to writing events and always sits down to read my work. He also lets me discuss ideas and offers his opinion and insight. I couldn’t be luckier, for many reasons, but of course this is one of them.

The wedding speeches have fired up my determination
Both Toby and my wonderful Dad, spoke about my writing in their speeches. I wasn’t really expecting it, but the fact they both made a point to discuss it meant so much to me. Their enthusiasm fired up my determination to keep writing, and to know I have their support with it all really helps.

Inspiration struck while travelling
On to the honeymoon! Toby and I jetted of to the USA for 2 weeks of adventure. First stop was New York City, and it goes without saying that this place was truly inspiring. From the dazzling lights of Broadway, to the unexpected city centre peace of Central Park, there’s such wonder and excitement. It’s true when they say a writer’s brain never switches off, and I certainly kept thinking up stories.

I spent two weeks living a real life day dream
After New York we headed down to sunny Orlando for some real fun. Of course the  are spectacular, and none more so than The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal. The whole place is a real life day dream, and as a Harry Potter fan for 20 years now it was truly magical.

So, what’s been happening while I’ve been so wonderfully away? How’s your writing going? Share below as I’d love to catch up with you all, and if you have any thoughts of the inspiration behind weddings and travelling then drop those down too.

Until then,
Keep writing,
M

  4. It’s so wonderful that your husband is a cheerleader for your writing. I too am very lucky that my partner is not only my alpha reader but my biggest supporter and his excitement for anything I write has helped me get through some tough times with my writing.
